Seth Godin said in a blog post about
Nostalgia…
“Nostalgia is a basic human emotion”
Kodak created a billion dollar industry by giving people a tool to feed their nostalgia.
“We don’t take pictures because we want to know what we’re seeing now… we already know that. We take pictures because it makes us feel good to know that years later, when nostalgia for that moment comes around, we’ll be ready.”
I agree!
The Importance of Preserving Memories
So many people say they wished they’d written down even the odd place name when travelling, but felt convinced it was all so vivid, how could they ever forget?
Two years on, as the desire to recall nostalgic memories becomes more pressing, they can’t even remember the name of favourite spots that at the time were highlights. 🙁
How do you Record your Travel Memories?
Godin goes on to say:
“When doing something important, like launching a big project, or a new company, or running some sort of campaign designed to change things, keep a scrapbook. Not a note book, a tool for writing down facts. A scrapbook. Include photos and quotes and clippings and events. Two reasons. First, you’ll be glad later (I still have scrapbooks from some of my previous projects) and more important, because it will remind you that you’re doing something important and that time is precious.”
Time is precious and travelling is important!

It is a great idea Linda. I keep lots of things from travelling but they are in no order. I diary, map or book would make sense. And I like the idea if not just when travelling but when starting a new project etc..thanks!
I think particularly when starting out on a new venture (as in business) as that’s a classic for getting so caught up in the ‘doing’ that one wouldn’t think of collating some ephemera in its developmental journey –
As time can sooooo get away from me for the last few years I’ve used a Journal Map (that has 11 boxes around the outside – 1 for each month with a month off!) to record just one highlight at the end of each month – To give you the gist here’s a link to my Year at a Glance so far for 2013 🙂
Let me know if you need a Journal Map to start yours 😉
