On the Road to Alice Springs

Having packed a few essentials for the trip…

travel journal equipment We’re off!

Background to our Australia adventure:

I had some International visitors come to stay the week-end before last who wanted some ideas of what they could do and where they could go to get a feel for Australia in just a few weeks.

Before the week-end was out we were all booked on a flight to the Red Centre!

We’re visiting Uluru, Alice Springs, then out to Glen Helen via Standley Chasm, Simpson’s Gap, Emily’s Gap and Orminston Gorge.

We’re then heading north to the Devil’s Marbles and Three Ways where we turn right and will be going east across the Barkly Tablelands, virtually till we hit the coast and the Great Barrier Reef.

At Charters Towers though, we’re turning left and heading north to see the Undara Lava Tubes – Formed 190,000 years ago when a major volcano erupted, the top layer of the molten lava cooled and crusted, while the fiery magma continued to flow below creating these hollowed out tubes. Can’t wait to see that 😉

Then over the Atherton Tablelands seeing Malanda Falls, the Curtain Fig Tree and Kuranda before heading down to Cairns and the sea!
